Cylindrical magnets play a vital role in sensor technology due to their unique shape and strong magnetic field characteristics. They not only provide a stable magnetic field source for the sensor, but also realize non-contact measurement and signal conversion of physical quantities through the interaction of the magnetic field with the sensing element inside the sensor. The magnetic field characteristics of cylindrical magnets are mainly reflected in their magnetic field strength and distribution. Due to the shape of the magnet and the magnetization direction (usually along the length direction), its magnetic field is distributed in a specific way in the space around the magnet. The strength and direction of the magnetic field vary with the distance from the surface of the magnet and the position of the observation point, which provides a rich source of information for the sensor.
Inside the sensor, there are many types of sensing elements, each with unique physical properties and working principles to meet different measurement needs. Using the Hall effect, when a current passes through a conductor and a magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the current direction, a potential difference is generated on both sides of the conductor. By measuring this potential difference, the strength and direction of the magnetic field can be indirectly measured. Its resistance value changes with the change of magnetic field strength. When a cylindrical magnet approaches, the resistance of the magnetoresistive element changes. By measuring the change in resistance value, the strength of the magnetic field and the position of the magnet can be inferred. Similar to the magnetoresistive element, but its response to magnetic field changes is more sensitive, suitable for occasions requiring high-precision measurement.
The raw electrical signal output by the sensor is usually weak and may contain noise, so a series of signal processing steps are required to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio and usability of the signal. Use an amplifier to amplify the weak electrical signal to a level sufficient for subsequent processing. Use a filter to remove noise and interference components in the signal to improve the purity of the signal. Convert the analog signal to a digital signal so that more advanced analysis and processing can be performed using digital signal processing technology.
In speed measurement applications, the combination of cylindrical magnets and Hall sensors is a common solution. As the object being measured (such as a wheel) rotates, the magnet periodically passes through the sensor and generates a periodic electrical signal. By measuring the frequency of the signal, the rotation speed of the object can be calculated. In addition, by adjusting the polarity and distribution of the magnet, direction detection can also be achieved. In automated production lines and robotics, cylindrical magnets are often used as position markers or trigger signal sources. When the sensor detects a specific magnetic field pattern generated by a magnet, it triggers the corresponding control logic to perform a preset action or adjust the position of the robot. This non-contact position detection method has the advantages of high precision, high reliability and long life.
Cylindrical magnets play an indispensable role in sensor technology. They achieve accurate measurement and signal conversion of physical quantities by generating a stable magnetic field and interacting with the sensing elements inside the sensor. With the continuous development of science and technology, the application of cylindrical magnets in sensor technology will become more extensive and in-depth, providing strong support for the development of industrial automation, intelligent transportation, medical equipment and other fields.
